Worth the Wait

Dear Sufi,

When I was in primary-secondary school, being a kid-teenager, I always wanted what my friends have. Everytime I think about it, I smile. Sometimes, the memories just bring me to tears. I can't imagine how Nenek put up with me - and tried her best to make me happy.

I still remember how I desperately wanted the blue EastPak bagpack. Masa tu memang cool la tengok orang lain pakai. Pakai pulak dengan kasut tapak keras yang ada lubang square tu. Cool gile. So I waited. Nenek finally bought it. Cool gile berjalan kat pedestrian walk depan sekolah tunggu bas uncle. Rambut ikat ponytail with sideways fringe. Mama baget cun!
When I was in form 2, I was sitting beside Shiew Li who always wrote her name as shoelace. She had a striking red GUESS pencil case. I can't just stop looking at it! So I waited. But of course I didn't ask for the GUESS pencil case. It was just plain impossible! I went to LOT 10 with Nenek. It was a corner lot shop. Nenek finally bought a blue pencil case that I was eying for a long time. RM22.90. I wouldn't have bought a pencil case which cost that much NOW! Masa tu, tak payah dah simpan pencil case dalam meja. Sentiasa atas meja. Tengok papan hitam, tengok pencil case. Senyum. Come to think about it - I think it was the same pencil case that Wanie had.

Sufi,
There are things worth the wait. It might sound frustrating to keep waiting - even just to get simple things. But when you get the things that don't come to you easily, you will appreciate it more. You smile. Your heart smile too ^.^

Sufi,
At 30, Mama finally got it. Not actually what I wanted in the first place - but it's even better! And most importantly - cheaper! Kerja papa lah semua ni. I was just about to settle down with his 4-yo Canon IXUS when he dragged me to the digital camera fair just outside Matta Fair. We immediately fell in love with it but Papa looked me in the eye and said. "Rilex Mama, rilex. Baru spend air ticket tadi. Rilex."
The next day, Papa willingly to walk from Subang Parade to Empire just to check out the Sony Center. They didn't have the model I wanted. As we were just about to leave Empire we saw a camera shop at the Ground floor.
Alhamdulillah, rezeki performance bonus dari Allah swt. After almost 3 years of waiting, from Canon S95 to FUJITSU FinePix x100. Finally, I got a SONY NEX-5N with double lense kit (18-55mm and 55-210mm lenses). I was sweating! It was a lot of money. Maybe not to some. But to me it is - an expensive investment to capture your childhood and our moments together.

5 days later, one fine Friday evening, just after you got back from school (Tadika Comelku), we had a short-novice outdoor photoshoot. Being you at 2 years + 5months = cheeky & loves to pose. Enjoy them Sufi!

There you go. The sweetness of waiting.
